Why MoodKite exists

MoodKite is a self-observation and reflection app, built for young people to notice and record their own everyday emotional experience — and for the adults they talk to, so that conversation has something concrete in it. This page is for the adults.

"I feel bad" is often as far as it goes

A young person can know that something is wrong long before they can say what. Which feeling it actually is.

What was around it. Whether something like it has happened before. What they tend to do when it turns up, and what tends to happen next. What is usually there on the better days.

Those are separate skills, and they are learned by practising them on ordinary days rather than on the worst one. MoodKite exists to make that practice easy: a few seconds, whenever there is something to notice.

A day is not one thing

A day can start well, turn angry after school and end lonely. "How was your day?" asks for one answer, so it gets one — usually the loudest part of it.

MoodKite records moments instead of days. That is why a check-in is one tap long and why it can happen more than once between breakfast and bed.

Memory is not a database

A school psychologist, a counsellor or a social pedagogue may see a young person once a week, and that conversation leans on what the young person can recall. The most intense event survives the week.

Several smaller ones, which together would have shown something, do not.

A light record changes the opening question. Instead of "how was your week", it can start from something the young person wrote down themselves: "school appeared alongside a lot of the difficult moments this week — does that fit?"

MoodKite supports that conversation and does not replace it. It never sends anything to anyone, and there is no view for adults: if a young person wants to share what they recorded, they open the app and show it.

The app organises what was noticed. The person, with help if they want it, works out what it means.

Built in Estonia, Estonian first

MoodKite is made by Delvaris OÜ in Estonia. Estonian and Russian are first-class languages in the app rather than translations bolted on afterwards, because the young people it was designed for are here.

It is free, carries no advertising and asks for no account. There is no business built on knowing who uses it, which is the plainest reason to believe the privacy promise: there is nothing to collect.

MoodKite is not a medical device, a therapy service, or a replacement for talking to someone. If a young person is struggling, the right next step is a person, not an app.
